5 natural remedies for flu and colds

Colds and flu-like conditions are common in winter. They can however be avoided or relieved if they have already been contracted, thanks to simple and natural remedies!

Black elderberry is an effective natural remedy for treating the flu. A study carried out in the 1990s shows that subjects treated for influenza with an extract of black elderberries observed an improvement in their condition after 2 days, compared to 6 days for the group treated with a placebo. Black elderberry has also been recognized as an effective way to prevent colds.
Black elderberry can be eaten in the form of flowers or berries. There are ready-made preparations of black elderberries. The following indications are carried out with elder flowers:

– Infusion. Infuse 3 to 5 g of dried flowers in 150 ml of boiling water for 10 to 15 minutes. Drink three cups a day.

Andrographis has been used for several hundred years in the treatment of fever and respiratory infections. It is a plant that is not found in raw form in Western countries, where it can be obtained in the form of tablets or capsules containing 4 to 6% of andrographolide, one of the active substances. of the andrographis.

Today, it is still recommended in the treatment of respiratory tract infections such as the flu or the common cold. It is advisable to take 400 mg of standardized andrographis extract containing 4 to 6% andrographolide, 3 times a day in case of flu or cold.

– Infusion. Infuse 2 to 3 g of dried eucalyptus leaves in 150 ml of boiling water for 10 minutes, at a rate of 2 cups per day.
– Tincture (1: 5). Take 10 to 15 ml, twice a day.
– Essential oil. Take 2 to 6 drops per day of eucalyptus essential oil on a neutral lozenge. This use is not recommended for young children or pregnant women.
– Inhalation. Pour into an inhaler, 4 to 6 drops of essential oil in 150 ml of boiling water. Repeat the operation up to three times a day.

Surprising as it may seem, garlic is also an effective remedy for colds and flu symptoms as it helps treat respiratory tract infections. In this case, it can be consumed in different ways:

– Fresh garlic. Consume the equivalent of 4 cloves of garlic (16 g) per day to protect against colds.
– Dried garlic . Take 2 to 4g of dried garlic powder, 3 times a day to prevent colds.
– Tincture. Take 2 to 4 ml, 3 times a day, if the common cold has already been contracted.
